Many apprentice midwives begin this journey but are unable to finish it due to financial constraints. Show solidarity by supporting traditional midwifery.
For twenty years, I have been blessed to support dozens of families as a birth worker. During that time I have sat and trained with traditional midwives, healers, griots, and culture keepers to understand the overlaps of midwifery, plant medicine, and spirituality. Through their teachings, I have come to believe that birth work is a sacred rite of passage. It is a privilege for us as birth workers to witness and support all stages of pregnancy. I do not take that lightly. Becoming a licensed midwife is my deepest passion and life's work. Supporting families during the pandemic and abroad in Senegal, Tanzania, and South Africa, affirmed my belief that we need more midwives of color. The few Black midwives we have are burning out or closing their practices. Our families deserve competent and compassionate midwives they can trust.

All of my previous pregnant clients and mentees will tell you that I love everything about birth. From the placenta to nutrition and matrescence, nothing excites me more than talking about how best to support them in curating the experience they desire. After working in the shadows of other midwives, I am on track to follow in their footsteps by finally becoming a multi-state licensed midwife with her practice which is rooted in community. Thank you for being in solidarity with midwives of color by contributing. If you would like to contribute in non-monetary ways, please get in touch. All forms of support are welcome!
