REROOT THE VILLAGE

Seasonal community wellness gatherings in Maryland and Virginia for all ages, bodies, and reproductive phases.

Heal the womb, heal communities.

Take control of your health in a communal way.
We create a learning space that supports wombs of all ages through fertility, menstruation, gestation, postpartum, matrescense, and menopause. Together we remove the fear and frustration of navigating reproductive health alone by using traditional midwifery to re-educate our village.

Community is everything.

Reroot the Village is shaped by the traditions of community-based health, rematriation, and village prenatal sessions. We aim to provide reproductive education, whole-food meals, and services that unite communities. Each gathering is facilitated by midwives, birth workers, or reproductive health advocates at no cost.

Our gatherings nurture the soul and eliminate financial barriers to wellness.

People of all ages are encouraged to attend. Children-friendly. Bring the babies! Elder-friendly. Bring your wisdom!

  • Our gatherings are free, but registration is required.

  • We are partnering with herbalists, farmers, and land stewards to build a free birthing garden in the DMV.

  • An intimate group of all ages, abilities, and interests. This is a child-friendly space.

  • We partner with local artists, community health workers, caterers, and students to host each gathering in a new location within the DMV and Eastern Shore regions.

  • A complete meal is provided at each gathering that centers which whole foods are in season.

  • We use traditional midwifery modalities that have been passed down through our families.

  • Each gathering includes teach-ins, handouts, and services about reproductive health.

“When you don’t have community, you are not listened to; you don’t have a place you can go to and feel that you really belong. You don’t have people to affirm who you are and to support you in bringing forward your gifts. This disempowers the psyche, making you vulnerable to consumerism and all the things that come along with it…One of the principles of the Dagara concept of relationships is that it is not private. When we talk about “our relationship” in the village, the word our is not limited to two. And this is why we find it pretty hard to live a relationship in a modern culture that is lacking true community.”
